Programs

School tours at Beaver Meadow Audubon Center, "Naturalist-in-the-classroom" or at your community group, Naturalist-led Family Walks Sundays at 2:00PM. Iroquois Observations! Bird watching programs at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge during migration seasons, a full program of regularly scheduled Field Trips to sites across WNY, and much more. Check Outlook for any occasional time and place changes. Buffalo Audubon sponsors student involvement in science and the environment, including an annual high school fellowship and sponsorship of Niagara County Community College's About Place Essay Contest.

Nature Festivals at the Center attract hundreds of area residents. An October weekend features the three evenings of the Enchanted Forest (reserve early!). Summer Nature Day Camp Program, Bird-a-thons, Christmas Bird Count, Great Backyard Bird Count, Classroom FeederWatch, full moon walks, and much more. Winter programs also include snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Over eight miles of marked and maintained trails open 24/7 at the 324 acre Beaver Meadow Audubon Center in North Java, New York. Buffalo Audubon also owns and protects a total of six preserves across Western New York totaling 900 acres. Our newest, the North Tonawanda Audubon Nature Preserve, is the Society's first nature sanctuary in an urban setting and is the site of a vigorous, volunteer-led array of services including nature hikes, owl prowls, nature study, and high school service-learning programs.

Outdoor Activities
FIELD TRIPS: The Buffalo Audubon Society offers public nature hikes and other outdoor activities at natural sites across Western New York. Trips are led by experienced naturalists or outdoor enthusiasts. Occasional trips may require a small fee or parking fees at state parks in season. IROQUOIS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

Take flight to Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge each spring and fall to enjoy Buffalo Audubon's Iroquois Observations! programs. In partnership with the US Department of Fish and Wildlife's Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, Buffalo Audubon Society volunteers present the Iroquois Observations! bird watching program each Saturday during the spring migrations. The programs are free, open to the public, and are accessible to beginners and expert birders alike. A perfect family outing, the Saturday programs begin at 1 p.m. and last until 6 p.m. and feature expert guides at spotting scopes at designated overlooks, scheduled nature hikes, and driving tours. Some Iroquois Observations! Saturdays include evening owl prowls at dusk. Check the online calendar for details or call (800) 377-1520. ALLEGANY NATURE PILGRIMAGE

The ultimate weekend for lovers of nature! For over four decades the Buffalo Audubon Society has partnered with the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as well as Jamestown Audubon Society Presque Island (PA) Audubon Society and the Burroughs Nature Club (Rochester). This three-day weekend held in the beginning of June at Allegany State Park is the highlight of the year for hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts. Over one hundred presentations, hikes, lectures, workshops, and special events highlight the three-day weekend. Campsite or cabin rental must be separately arranged with New York State Parks.

Indoor Audubon programs



Library programs, Garden Clubs, Senior Centers, Civic groups and other Clubs. Audubon naturalists can come to your group's location or host you at our nature center for a nature education program of your choice for a nominal fee. Contact program staff at (800) 377-1520 for more information.

Audubon naturalists can come to your classroom and can tailor the presentation to fit your specific needs. Buffalo Audubon offers a dozen theme outreach programs, each keyed to the new New York State Learning Standards. Buffalo Audubon nature center and outreach programs are listed in the Erie II BOCES COSERS book and are eligible for reimbursement. Teachers in other BOCES regions please contact your BOCES representative for opportunities to access these unique programs and be eligible for partial reimbursement.
